Imnedija ħames skemi ta’ boroż ta’ studju tal-valur ta' €2.3 miljun

Il-Ministru għall-Edukazzjoni u x-Xogħol Owen Bonnici, flimkien mas-Segretarju Parlamentari għaż-Żgħażagħ, l-Isport u l-Volontarjat Clifton Grima, u s-Segretarju Parlamentari għall-Fondi Ewropej Stefan Zrinzo Azzopardi, nedew ħames skemi ta’ boroż ta’ studju b’valur totali ta’ €2.3 miljun.

Il-ħames skemi ta' boroż ta' studju huma; il-Borża ta' Studju Endeavour, il-Borża ta' Studju dwar Edukazzjoni Terzjarja (TESS), il-Borża ta' Studju tal-Arti, il-Borża ta' Studju dwar l-iSport u l-Borża ġdida dwar Studji Veterinarji. B'kollox huma mistennija jibbenefikaw madwar 500 student minn dawn il-ħames skemi ta' boroż ta' studju.

Il-Ministru Owen Bonnici sostna li dawn il-ħames skemi ta' boroż ta' studju huma opportunità tad-deheb biex ħafna studenti jkunu jistgħu jwettqu l-ħolm tagħhom u jkomplu bl-istudji tagħhom. Huwa qal li fl-aħħar mill-aħħar dan huwa investiment li minnu se jgawdi pajjiżna.

Huwa għamel referenza dwar l-iskema l-ġdida ta' Borża ta' Studju dwar Studji Veterinarji, u saħaq li fuq din l-iskema qed jiġi allokat investiment ġdid ta’ €500,000 minn fondi nazzjonali. Huwa saħaq, “Ilu jinħass li hemm bżonn iżjed għajnuna u assistenza lil studenti li jieħdu korsijiet fil-Mediċina Veterinarja u bis-saħħa ta’ din il-borża ta’ studju qed nagħmlu propju dan. L-impenn tagħna fis-settur edukattiv huwa li nagħmlu dak kollu possibli biex nagħtu l-aqwa opportunitajiet għall-benefiċċju tal-istudenti biex ikollhom l-isbaħ esperjenza fil-formazzjoni tal-edukazzjoni tagħhom. Dan nagħmluh għax nemmnu fil-kapaċitajiet tal-istudenti tagħna u rridu nagħtuhom l-aqwa esperjenza fis-settur edukattiv.”

Is-Segretarju Parlamentari għaż-Żgħażagħ, l-Isport u l-Volontarjat Clifton Grima qal li l-gvern qed jaħdem b'mod konsistenti għall-promozzjoni tal-isport bħala professjoni u dixxiplina f'Malta. Tant hu hekk li, bejn l-2013 u l-2020, il-gvern qassam total ta' madwar €850,000 f'boroż ta' studju fil-qasam sportiv. Is-Segretarju Parlamentari Grima kompla jgħid li permezz ta’ dawn il-boroż ta’ studju, il-gvern qiegħed ikompli jinkoraġġixxi l-iżvilupp professjonali ta' dawk kollha involuti fl-isport u fl-immaniġjar tal-qasam sportiv. Barra minn hekk, qed ikomplu jiżdiedu l-persuni li jaħdmu fil-qasam sportiv u b’hekk qed tkompli tissaħħaħ l-infrastruttura sportiva f’pajjiżna.

Is-Segretarju Parlamentari għall-Fondi Ewropej Stefan Zrinzo Azzopardi sostna li l-programm Endeavour, iffinanzjat minn fondi Ewropej, huwa maħsub biex jagħti l-opportunità lil aktar nies biex jispeċjalizzaw fil-qasam li jkunu studjaw. Hu spjega li dan il-proġett għen madwar 1,000 persuna biex ikomplu jistudjaw. Fit-totalità tiegħu, dan il-programm se jinvesti 11-il miljun ewro għall-aktar edukazzjoni u taħriġ. Hu stqarr li aktar ma jgħaddi żmien, id-dinja tax-xogħol dejjem qed tevolvi u teħtieġ persuni li jkunu kwalifikati u aġġornati bl-aħħar tagħrif. Infatti, is-Segretarju Parlamentari qal li t-taħriġ, edukazzjoni u speċjalment lifelong learning huma ċ-ċavetta biex l-oqsma tax-xogħol li qed jiżviluppaw u jsibu persuni mħarrġa li jaddattaw għal bidliet ekonomiċi.

L-iskemi ta' boroż ta' studju

I) Skema ta' Borża ta' Studju dwar Studji Veterinarji

Il-korsijiet li jwasslu għad-Dottorat fil-Mediċina Veterinarja (fil-Livell 7 tal-MQF) s’issa mhumiex disponibbli lokalment. It-tnedija ta’ din l-iskema ġdida ta’ boroż ta’ studju se tippermetti lill-istudenti li jsegwu l-kors għad-Dottorat fil-qasam Veterinarju (fil-Level 7 tal-MQF) biex japplikaw u jingħataw pakkett finanzjarju aktar sodisfaċenti li jkopri t-tul tal-kors kollu sat-tlestija u fl-aħħar mill-aħħar jiggradwaw fil-Mediċina Veterinarja minn istituzzjoni rikonoxxuta u b’ċertifikazzjoni fil-livell 7 tal-Qafas Malti għall-Kwalifiki.

II) Skema ta' Borża ta' Studju Endeavour

B'kollox, qed jiġu allokati €1,000,000 għall-Iskema ta’ Scholarships ta' Endeavour fl-2020. Din l-iskema tappoġġja edukazzjoni terzjarja ta' kwalità tajba u tiżgura li s-suq tax-xogħol Malti jiġi fornut b’individwi kwalifikati filwaqt li tiggarantixxi li dawn ikunu f'pożizzjoni aħjar biex jikkompetu fuq livell internazzjonali. L-iskema hija mmirata biex tappoġġja lil dawk li qed isegwu din it-triq biex jirnexxu kemm fil-livell ta' edukazzjoni li jiksbu kif ukoll biex jikkontribwixxi b'mod effettiv lejn l-ekonomija.

L-Iskema Endeavour hi parzjalment iffinanzjata mill-Programm Operazzjonali tal-Unjoni Ewropea II - Politika ta' Koeżjoni 2014 - 2020.

III) Skema ta' Borża ta' Studju TESS

€370,000 minn fondi nazzjonali huma disponibbli għal din l-iskema. TESS hija skema oħra miftuħa għall-istudenti postuniversitarji, fil-livell 7 tal-MQF u fil-livell 8 tal-MQF. L-iskema għandha l-għan li tipprovdi opportunitajiet ta’ finanzjament għall-istudenti sabiex ikunu jistgħu jsegwu programmi ta’ studju ta’edukazzjoni għolja u tinkoraġġixxi lill-istudenti iżidu l-livelli ta’ riċerka akkademika.

IV) Skema ta' Borża ta' Studju tal-Arti

Se jitqassmu €330,000 minn fondi nazzjonali permezz tal-Malta Arts Scholarships Scheme. Il-Malta Arts Scholarships Scheme għandha l-għan li tipprovdi aktar opportunitajiet għall-appoġġ lil individwi li għandhom talent eċċezzjonali fil-ħolqien jew il-promozzjoni ta’ professjonisti fl-arti espressiva. It-teatru, il-mużika, iż-żfin, id-disinn, il-kitba kreattiva, il-film, l-arti viżiva jew kwalunkwe kombinazzjoni tagħhom għandhom jingħataw prijorità.

V) Skema ta' Borża ta' Studju dwar l-Isport

Qed  isir investiment ta’ €130,000 minn fondi nazzjonali għall-Iskema tal-Isports. L-isports se jkun qed jittieħed fil-livell professjonali u jippromwovi l-iżvilupp ta’ atleti bi prestazzjoni għolja li eventwalment se jirrappreżentaw lil Malta f’kompetizzjonijiet internazzjonali. Iż-żieda fl-istatus tal-isport f’Malta mhux biss twassal għal rikonoxximent internazzjonali usa’ b’benefiċċji ekonomiċi pożittivi għall-industrija tat-turiżmu, iżda se tinkoraġġixxi wkoll l-prattika regolari tal-isport u l-attività fiżika madwar il-pajjiż li tirriżulta f’titjib ġenerali fis-saħħa u l-benesseri tal-popolazzjoni kollha kemm hi.

5 scholarship schemes worth €2.3 million launched

  • Unprecedented investment in our students

  • Around 500 students are expected to benefit 

  • A new scholarship scheme for Veterinary Studies unveiled

Minister for Education and Employment Owen Bonnici together with Parliamentary Secretary for Youth, Sports and Voluntary Organisations Clifton Grima and Parliamentary Secretary for European Funds Stefan Zrinzo Azzopardi launched five scholarship schemes worth a total of €2.3 million.

The 5 scholarships schemes are Endeavour Scholarship Scheme, Tertiary Education (TESS) Scholarship Scheme, Malta Arts Scholarship Scheme, Malta Sports Scholarship Scheme, and the new Veterinary Studies Scholarship Scheme. Around 500 persons are expected to benefit from these 5 scholarship schemes.

Minister Owen Bonnici said that through this golden opportunity, a large number of students will be able to realise their dreams and further their studies. This is not only an investment in the students themselves, he said, but also an investment in the country. 

He referred to the new Veterinary Studies Scholarships Scheme and said that €500,000 from national funds have been allocated towards this scheme. He said, “The need has long been felt to aid and assist students following courses in Veterinary Medicine. Our commitment to the educational sector is to do all that is possible to provide the best opportunities for the benefit of our students for them to have the best educational formation experience. This is done because we believe in our students’ capabilities and it is our goal to provide them with the best educational journey”.

Parliamentary Secretary Clifton Grima stated that the government is consistently working towards promoting sport as both a profession and discipline in Malta. Indeed, between 2013 and 2020 the government distributed a total of €850,000 in bursaries in the sports sector. Parliamentary Secretary Grima added that through these bursaries, the government continues to encourage the professional development of those involved in the sports sector and sports management. The number of individuals working in the sports sector is also on the increase, thus the sportive infrastructure in our country is continuously being reinforced.

Parliamentary Secretary, Stefan Zrinzo Azzopardi, said that the programme Endeavour, financed through European Funds, was intended to provide opportunities for more people to specialise in their area of expertise. Dr Zrinzo Azzopardi explained that this project gave aid to approximately 1,000 persons to continue their studies. In its totality, this programme will be investing 11 million euro in more education and training. He said as time passes by, the labour market is continuously evolving and requires more qualified people updated with all the latest knowledge. The parliamentary secretary remarked that training, education and most especially lifelong learning are key for the development of the workforce to adapt according to changes in the economy.

I) Veterinary Studies Scholarship Scheme 

Courses leading to a doctorate in Veterinary Medicine (MQF Level 7) are to date not available locally. The launch of the Veterinary Studies Scholarships Scheme, students will get the opportunity, following the course for Doctor in Veterinary (MQF Level 7), to apply and be awarded a more rewarding financial package covering the duration of the whole course until completion and ultimately graduating in Veterinary Medicine at a recognized Institution and with level 7 certification of the Malta Qualification Framework. 

The Scholarship Schemes

II) Endeavour Scholarship Scheme

€1,000,000 are being allocated for the Endeavour Scholarships Scheme in 2020. This scheme is to support good quality tertiary education and to ensure that the Maltese labour market is supplied with the right individuals and to guarantee that it is in a better position to compete at an international level. The scheme is aimed to support those pursuing this path to succeed both at the level of educational attainment as well as contributing effectively towards the economy.

The Endeavour Scheme, which aims to address the above objectives, is part-financed by the European Union Operational Programme II – Cohesion Policy 2014 – 2020.

III) TESS Scholarship Scheme

€370,000 from national funds are available for the Tertiary Education Scholarship Scheme. TESS is another scheme open to postgraduate students, at level MQF Level 7 and MQF Level 8. The scheme aims to provide funding opportunities for students to pursue higher education study programmes and encourage students towards further levels of academic research.

IV) Malta Arts Scholarship Scheme

€330,000 from national funds will be distributed via the Malta Arts Scholarships Scheme. The Malta Arts Scholarships Scheme aims at providing more opportunities to support individuals who are exceptionally talented in the creation and/or promotion of professional in the Expressive Arts. Theatre, music, dance, design, creative writing, film, the visual arts or any combination thereof shall be given priority.

V) Sports Scholarship Scheme

€130,000 from national funds are being invested towards the Sports Scheme. The promulgation of sports at a professional level will promote the development of high-performance athletes who will eventually represent Malta in international competitions. The elevation of the status of sport in Malta will not only bring about a wider international recognition with positive economic benefits for the tourism industry but will also encourage the uptake of sport and physical activity across the country resulting in overall improvements in health and well-being of the population as a whole.
